Team CFVP is back from Regionals. We're all exhausted so here's a short summary of the weekend. It was an exciting event filled with very challenging workouts and very competitive athletes. It was amazing to see the best in the North Central. Our team got off to a good start and after day 1, stood in 19th place. Day 2 brought out some great performances that moved us up to 11th. The final day tested our athletes with a Snatch Ladder that brought us to 14th, just out of reach to compete in the final event.
We'd like to applaud our team for their great achievements. CFVP is very proud to be able to send a team to represent our gym and St. Louis. This was the 4th year straight!!! To each athlete, we are honored to have you give it your best. We are continually inspired by your amazing abilities. You lift us up. Thank you to all of our members who support them and make this a great place to be.
We got to see some of our close friends compete as well. Jake Howard took 10th place in Men's individuals. David Corthwaite placed 15th. Josh Nimmo placed 23rd. Melissa Hurley took 9th. They are all so impressive and went up against a VERY tough region.
Lastly, we'd like to congratulate Margaret Junker. Margaret went as an individual and attacked the weekend with the grit and determination she's known for. She was literally up against giants. The size of some of the female competitors was simply intimidating. She battled so hard and achieved things she didn't dream of. Competition brings that out and Margaret is a gamer. We are SO proud of her!!!
"WE ARE OFF TO REGIONALS! GOOD LUCK CFVP COMPETITORS!"
CFVP would like to welcome Toni Waidmann and Jayna Burrus. These ladies are tough and doing great with our program. We're so glad to have you with us. We would also like to welcome back Michelle Hogan. Michelle was with us in the very beginning and we've missed her. Great to have you back Michelle and welcome aboard ladies.
REMINDER: This Saturday's open gym is from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Don't forget the 2012 CrossFit Games Regionals are this coming weekend. Tune in to the updates as our Team and Margaret Junker fight for a top 3 spot. Good luck CFVP. We're all pulling for you!!
We had some awesome PR's last week. Amy Wallhermfechtel went up to a 20 pound PR. Matt Westhoff also had some very strong lifts. Great job Amy and Matt.
REMINDER: There are alot of new athletes attending classes. Remember to introduce yourself or it's....you guessed it. BURPEES.
We've been working quite a bit on learning Clean technique. Patience and focused work is paying off. It is amazing to look around and see so many people doing well with the lift. This kind of technical work must be focused and diligent. We are adhering to important standards and we applaud everyone's patience. Keep up the great work.
To get an idea of the strength and power that world class Olympic Weightlifters develop, check out these training lifts. Pyrros Dimas weighs in around 180-185 pounds. You will hear the narrator announce the loads in Kilos. Just multiply that number by 2.2 and you will appreciate his amazing ability.
It's always nice to see members returning to the program. Ashley Strobach was on maternity leave and Alex Jeffries underwent sinus surgery. They are both back and doing awesome. Welcome back Ashley and Alex.
NOTE: On May 19th we will be in Chicago for the CrossFit Games Regionals. That Saturday, there will be an open gym period from 9-10 a.m. Classes are cancelled.
